I Michael Hicks discovered the direct source to Present Breathbased Awareness™ through suffering with severe pain for almost 30 years after an industrial accident two weeks after my 20th birthday. I was warned by my family doctor pf the need to change my ways or I would cease to exists in this world by the age of 40. I was atrophied throughout my body and could barely shower or put on my clothes without my body seizing. I was fortunate to discover a year later at the age of 36, the existence of the present moment and its connection with breath. So I began witnessing my inhale and exhale in the attempt to calm my mind so that I could enter and maintain presence in my life.

 I began to notice if I resist the reality of my circumstances, whether it be the pain throughout my body or my trying circumstances, my body would increase its pain level. I realized that if I mind my life, thinking thoughts that are not in alignment with reality, I suffered. If I accept what is, my pain would not only decrease greatly, but I would experience a peace within me, a stillness, regardless of the circumstances. This changed my life and for the past 14 years I've been researching and writing, in an attempt to discover what exactly happened to me, so I can share with everyone so they can experience the ability to enter and maintain presence at will.
